"On April 17, 2025, the Applications to Drill Water Wells filed by Pine Bliss, LLC were determined to be administratively complete by the Board of Directors of the Neches and Trinity Valleys Groundwater Conservation District. The Board now considers the notice of the Applications to be given, the time and date to receive request for contested case hearing, the methods for giving notice, and other matters relating to the Applications."
It has come to our attention that a proposition to drill high-capacity water wells is pending approval by Neches & Trinity Valleys Groundwater Conservation District. The wells in question include 43 high-capacity groundwater wells-- 22 in Henderson County and 21 in Anderson County-- representing a combined annual withdrawal request exceeding 15.3 Billion gallons from the Carrizo-Wilcox aquifer.
Available information indicates that these wells are intended to serve interests outside of the local region, potentially including large-scale municipal or industrial users in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. Exporting water on this scale from East Texas threatens to undermine the sustainability of the aquifer, impact existing domestic and agricultural wells, and compromise the future water security of residents, landowners, and municipalities within the District.
The Board of Directors and staff at Ben Wheeler WSC strongly urge our customers to consider signing a petition in opposition to these proposed high-capacity wells. While these wells are not being dug in Van Zandt County, the water being withdrawn will have a direct effect on our community. We have until June 19th, 2025 to file a contestment to this proposition. Any affected party that wishes to contest this application will need to provide a written notice/email to the District with justification no later than June 19, 2025.
Notice can be emailed to manager@ntvgcd.org
There will also be a petition sheet available at BWWSC office during normal business hours for any customer who wishes to come in and sign.
